Concepts of hospital financing, hospital legislation and financial management
The hospital landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and insights into financing, data registration, and quality indicators are crucial for making well-considered strategic decisions.

During this training, you will gain insight into how data registration is directly linked to the Budget of Financial Resources, quality of care, and policy-making. We provide you with practical tools to use this data strategically within your role as an executive, board member, or physician in a policy-making position.

The programme is structured around four modules:
• 14:00 – 15:30 MG-MZG (Medical Data)
• 15:30 – 16:30 Pharmacy (medication and materials lump-sum financing)
• 16:30 – 17:30 VG-MZG (Nursing Data)
• 17:30 – 18:30 Quality parameters – Quality Square

At 18:30, you are welcome to stay for a networking moment with catered sandwiches.
Tailored to the target audience
This training course has been tailored to (new) board members and directors, but physicians who sit on the medical council or are interested in policy are also welcome.

We also offer a course on this topic for staff members. This programme is more extensive and spans two full training days. You can find this course here.
Modules
MG-MZG
The first module, Medical Data – Minimum Hospital Data, provides insight into the role of medical data in hospital financing, with particular attention to the Budget of Financial Resources, low-variable care, length-of-stay performance, and DRG parameters.

Tools such as NPERCIZ and G-analyses are also covered, depending on the target audience.
Lecturers

Frederic Vanswijgenhoven is an expert in hospital financing at Jessa Hospital and a researcher at Ghent University and Vlerick Business School, focusing on efficiency in hospitals.

Pharmacy: Medication and Materials Lump-Sum
The Pharmacy module explains the medication lump-sum, how it is linked to admission data and prescribing behavior, and why accurate registration is essential for balanced financing. It includes feedback on practical challenges and opportunities for optimization.

Subsequently, the module delves deeper into the materials lump-sum (full name: lump-sum for invasive devices), which is divided into various categories. The different aspects of these categories are explained in detail.

Finally, a feedback example for physicians is presented to facilitate harmonization and to map the financial impact of the lump-sums.
Lecturer

VG-MZG
The Nursing Data – Minimum Hospital Data module explores nursing registrations, care periods, care intensity (TOT points), and their impact on time groups and care groups.

The module also provides insight into reporting via Solventum and the required quality of medical records.

Lecturer

Quality square
The final module focuses on the analysis of mortality, potentially preventable complications, and readmissions using MZG data, including the use of tools such as the Global Trigger Tool.
The emphasis is on translating data into targeted quality improvement.
