Concepts of hospital financing, hospital legislation and financial management

The hospital world is becoming increasingly complex, and insights into financing, registration and quality indicators are crucial for making well-considered strategic decisions.

During this training course, you will gain insight into how data registration is directly linked to the Financial Resources Budget, quality of care and policy implementation. We will provide you with tools to use this data strategically in your role as a board member, director or doctor in a policy position.

The training course is structured around three modules:

  • MG-MZG (Medical Data)

  • NRG model (Nursing Data)

  • Material flat rate (Pharmacy)

We provide a sandwich lunch during the lunch break.

Tailored to the target audience

This training course has been tailored to policy information staff. Hospital staff in other positions with an interest in hospital financing and policy data are also welcome, as are employees from other healthcare organisations who want to gain insight into these topics.

This course builds seamlessly on a previous course on hospital financing and policy data. Even those who missed the first day of the course but have some basic knowledge of MZG can follow this course without any problems.

We also provide a course on this topic for executives, board members and doctors. You can find this course here.

Modules

MVG: NRG-model

This part of the training takes a closer look at the NRG model, a grouping model that categorises nursing care into groups based on the national VG-MZG.

Each group or NRG represents a collection of care periods in which similar care is provided to the patient. The NRGs form the basis for calculating additional funding via component B2 of the BFM.

After a theoretical section, in which the structure of the NRG model is discussed, sufficient time is devoted to the impact and analysis of the NRGs on the basis of a practical example.

Lecturers

MG-MZG

Whereas the first training day focused on the Budget Financial Resources, low-variable care, length of stay performance and DRG parameters, this time we will take a closer look at Gpot, Gfin, emergency units and NPERCIZ.

After a thorough theoretical explanation, the concepts will be clarified through the elaboration of a practical example concerning Gpot and Gfin.

Lecturers

Frederic Vanswijgenhoven is an expert in hospital financing at Jessa Hospital and a researcher at Ghent University and Vlerick Business School, focusing on efficiency in hospitals.

Nathalie Baillieul is a manager at Hict .

Pharmacy: material fee

Following on the module pharmacy - medicine fee, this time we will be looking at the material fee.

The material flat rate (in full: flat rate for invasive medical devices) is divided into different categories. The various aspects of these categories will be explained.

We will then zoom in on a feedback example for doctors to facilitate harmonisation and map out the financial impact of the flat rates.

Lecturer

Marian Blanckaert is a hospital pharmacist at AZ Ostend.
